P&G Internship Programs

We are now taking applications for summer and fall internship positions.

 

P&G is looking for bright and enthusiastic students or recent graduates that are willing to take initiative on advancing our initiatives. Candidates who can work in our Washington D.C. office are preferred. However, we also encourage prospective candidates who do not reside in the DC metro area or are unable to relocate, to apply for our virtual internship program.  At present, all our internship positions are unpaid.

If you are applying for the Writer position, in 500 words or less, describe a public policy change for the treatment of mental health or behavioral health you’d like to see. This could be a change in legislation improvements in the operation of existing law, existing institutional structures, financing mechanisms, or anything else that you think might better enable us to deal with the challenges presented by the need to provide a holistic approach to delivery of mental health services.


 

INTERNSHIP POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

P&G Internships are administered and operated in two categories, Clinical and Corporate and Business Activities

Clinical Internship:  Licensed Professional Counselor (Practicum, Intern I and Intern II/Post-Graduate)
The first category of internship is for graduate students who are studying to become a licensed and board-certified professional counselor (LPC) for psychotherapy or a board-certified psychologist. Internships include mentoring and supervision under LPC's working at P&G.

Internships provide the opportunity to accompany LPC's, the Clinical Director or Psychologist during counseling sessions, to conduct counseling sessions under the supervision of LPC's or psychologists. Internships also provide hands-on opportunities to develop assessments for clients, treatment plans, client charts, the art of drafting therapy notes, entering therapy notes for coding and billing, and the administrative functions of intake and triage required to properly service clients.

Basic Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate student in good standing in an accredited university.

  • Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.

  • Must have a recent background check including a DC Police clearance.  VERY IMPORTANT:  If you reside in Maryland or Virginia you will also need an additional Police clearance from that state.

  • Proof of Limited Liability Insurance (Check with your schools policy-some schools cover this).

  • A TB test no older than six months from the date of the application.

  • Must be fully capable of using and mastering technology required to perform your internship.

Corporate and Business Activities Internship Opportunities:

Interns are given the opportunity to make hands-on contributions to exciting new initiatives that have the potential to promote and improve mind, body and wellness for adults and children through:
 

  • The planning and implementation of mind, body and wellness fairs.

  • Blog and development of material to stimulate the public interest in mind, body, and wellness.

  • Development of a YouTube program to promote mind, body wellness.

  • Conduct research for the development of legislation to increase funding to improve behavioral health services in the District of Columbia and nationally.

  • Development of an in-house software platform to facilitate the conduct of service delivery to our clients.

  • Development and implementation of comprehensive affiliation agreements to lay the foundation for the creation of a regional network of mental health service providers to drastically improve the quality of service delivered to consumers.

  • Conduct research to develop video games to teach children and young adults about mindfulness and mind, body, wellness.

  • Interns will make meaningful connections with policy makers through meetings, hearings, and other activities of P&G.

Research Specialist


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting research and performing analyses of research for our various projects supporting our companies and initiatives.

  • Developing action plans and implementation strategies for partners.

  • Drafting documents for mental health affiliates/partners.

  • Contacting and interviewing mental health experts to inform them about P&G objectives.
     

Qualifications:

  • Strong research skills.

  • Ability to express researched information into summarized documents.

  • Analytical skills.

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

  • Strong and Creative writing skills.

 

Individual Research Interns will be assigned projects from one of our initiatives, all of which are described here, according to their skills and interests by our Director of Operations. Applicants are encouraged to identify which initiative interests them in their cover letters.

Social Media and Web Content Manager


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Have primary responsibility of keeping social media accounts active.

  • Work with staff members and interns to post up to date news about mind, body wellness issues on U-tube Blog and P&G.

  • Continually post creative web content on www.pgcei.com with a focus on attracting new visitors.

  • Assist in editing duties where required.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in handling social media accounts.

  • Strong writing and presentation skills.

  • Basic knowledge of mental health issues.

  • Knowledge of new media.

  • Familiarity with, or a willingness to learn WiX, WordPress, GoDaddy or another website software.

Writer
 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Research specific issues and news about mind, body, and wellness.

  • Write articles and blog posts about corresponding research topics.

  • Follow designated guidelines.

  • Coordinate with other writers and editors.

 

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrably strong writing ability.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Strong belief in our mission statement and a commitment to promote innovative and practical solutions.

  • Expertise in mind, body and wellness and/or public policy regarding behavioral health services.

Business Administration-Human Resources


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Research state-of-the-art policy development for management of human resources in the intensively regulated field of health care, mental health and behavioral health in a fast-growing health and wellness agency.

  • Assist in the drafting of policy for human resource management with special emphasis regarding compliance with HIPPA laws, Medicaid regulations and state laws regarding licensing and certification.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of employee training programs to ensure compliance with regulations and the fundamentals of mastering the agency’s technology platform.

  • Assist in the development of benefit packages including agency assistance with retirement and financial planning seminars.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrably strong writing ability.

  • Strong research and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of business management.

Medical Billing and Coding

The Medical Billing and Coding Intern may handle all aspects of medical billing and coding and is responsible for performing tasks relating to insurance verification, collection of third party insurance submissions, and client customer service.  


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Identifies patient and third party payments to ensure correct posting classification.

  • Verifies insurance benefits, patient refunds and invoices.

  • Obtains insurance authorizations for psychological evaluations.

  • Posts payments to accounting system.

  • Research, identify and facilitate resolutions to minor problems with overdue or unpaid accounts.

  • Answer and resolve telephone inquiries from internal and external sources.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, and judgement in working with all levels of staff.

  • Pleasant telephone manner and the ability to communicate accurately and clearly both orally and in writing.

  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing and database systems, filing and records management systems, and other office procedures and terminology.

  • Able to multi task under pressure.

Medical Office Assistant

The Medical Office Assistant may handle all aspects of the patient intake process, establishing and maintaining positive relationships with customers and referral sources, responding to customer requests and concerns, and insurance verification and authorization processes.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains daily patient referral and intake operations.

  • Ensures compliance with all state and federal intake regulatory requirements.

  • Perform detail chart audit and review per company compliance policy.  

  • Maintain a pristine lobby and work area at all times.

  • Assist with the creation of medical charts, completion of insurance forms and retrieval of medical charts.

  • Assist with extracting key data from patient records and entering summaries into digital files.  

  • Assist with scanning records to verify information has been correctly transferred and saved.

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college or university as a Medical Office Assistant.

  • Ability to exercise courtesy and sound judgement in working with all levels of staff.

  • Pleasant telephone manner and the ability to communicate accurately and clearly both orally and in writing.

  • Good organizational and technical skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office; skilled in typing and note taking.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and databases to accomplish clerical, statistical and data entry tasks.

  • General office skills, using photocopier, scanners, preparing shipments and cataloging information.
